Lifting the cut sections
A floating sheerleg is used to raise the cut
sections from the seabed
Workers cut holes
to attach lifting
cables
The cut sections are
loaded on to barges
and towed to shore
Floating the stern
Enormous air-filled metal boxes called caissons
are welded to the sides of the hull
The caissons are filled
and emptied of water
to right the hull and
reach the perfect level
of buoyancy
Once righted and
afloat tugs tow
the stern to shore
Clearing debris
Barges fitted with
underwater magnets
and grabbers pick up
smaller debris on site
Sections removed and taken ashore
