Vaccines frozen at Keele are dispatched to Wockhardt, based in Wrexham in north Wales, where they are put into vials

Distribution

Every batch of vaccine must be quality tested. Manufacturers, whose premises and processes have been approved, and government inspectors test samples of the vaccine from each batch

Approved doses will be sent to up to 1,000 sites in GPs’ surgeries and community centres, 70 hospitals and later this month the first of about 50 mass vaccination hubs will open

Vaccines will be administered by existing GPs and nurses as well as thousands of returning medical staff assisted by volunteers being enlisted by St John Ambulance

Over the first 12 weeks, the NHS plans to vaccinate everyone over 50 as well as the most at-risk groups by mid-February. Each recipient will need a second booster dose within 12 weeks
