How the NHS contact-tracing app works

1

Person A downloads the contact-tracing app and enables Bluetooth

2

Their phone logs distance data with any phones that are nearby

3

Data is anonymous for A and everybody they come in contact with

4

They can also scan a QR code at any venue they attend

5

If someone who was at the same venue falls ill, A gets an alert and advice on their phone

6

If person A falls ill they notify the app that they have symptoms

7

Their personal bluetooth key is uploaded to a central server

8

People who have been in close contact with A, or who were at the same venue, are sent alerts and advice
