Peterborough has swung between Conservative and Labour since the 1990s. It expanded fast in the 1970s in the new towns programme and grew again since 2011 adding 16,500 residents. Today nearly 16% of the population come from other EU countries. Big employers include Amazon's distribution hub and the Perkins engine plant, although incomes have fallen behind national averages in recent years.
A higher rank means an area is more deprived (lacking income, employment, access to healthcare or education).
