‘One-by-one' tuna fishing is about catching tuna one at a time, and includes the following techniques

Pole-and-line

Live baitfish is thrown overboard and water is sprayed on to the surface to attract tuna schools. Each of the fishers uses a single pole and a barbless hook

Handline

An individual fisher deploys a single line and hook from a stationary vessel. When a tuna bites, the fisher hauls it in by hand

Troll

Multiple fishing lines are drawn though the water behind a vessel. Fishers pull in the line to unhook the catch
