Hole 17

The Island, Par 4

460 yards

40 yds

Ball movement

400 yds

Tee

250 yds

The great thing about Carnoustie’s two closing holes, and contrary to what would be regarded as traditional links standard, is that they run in opposite directions. Carnoustie’s finish is widely regarded as the tougheston the Open rota. At 460 yards and generally into the wind, this is a treacherous par four with the burn a recurring feature. An accurate tee shot into the island fairway is essential before a long-iron second into a green that is well covered by dunes and bunkers.
