Three tips to avoid scam messages

Liz Ziegler, fraud prevention director at Lloyds Bank, offers the following advice:

  1. Check it’s genuine
Even if you recognise the name of the sender, be careful with a message that arrives out of the blue. Call the sender on a number you trust, not one from an email, text or WhatsApp. If you need to check a website, type in the web address rather than clicking a link in the message.
  2. Click with caution
Only click on a link in an email, text or WhatsApp after you’ve made sure it’s genuine. Fraudsters use links and downloads to take you to fake sites or to put a virus on your device.
  3. Delete
If you’re not sure about an email or text, don’t reply and don’t click on anything. Just delete it.
