Four ways to protect yourself from ticketing scams

Liz Ziegler, fraud prevention director at Lloyds Bank, offers the following advice:

  1. Make sure you buy from a well-known ticket company or site that is registered with the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR).
  2. Always ask plenty of questions and look at reviews. Lots of good reviews from different buyers are better than mixed, bad or no reviews at all.
  3. Resist the temptation of low prices or sold out tickets, especially on social networks. Fraudsters use social media to sell phoney tickets, so if the deal is too good to be true, it’s likely a scam.
  4. Genuine ticket sites offer safe ways for buyers to pay, such as by debit or credit card. Never pay directly into a seller’s bank account. If you do and things go wrong, you may not get your money back.
