While we need to rely on renewable energy sources to cut carbon, they are, by nature, intermittent – we can’t control when the sun shines or the wind blows. What we can control is how we manage and store our energy supplies. Part of Britain’s commitment to creating a zero-carbon future includes making our energy network “smarter” – implementing digital technology to make it more responsive. By collecting data on energy use through smart meters, our network can better understand and manage demand, thus integrating more renewables.
