Poultry retailers respond to the allegations

Marks & Spencer

“We take food safety very seriously and regularly audit all of our suppliers to ensure that they meet our strict codes of practice. We do not tolerate any alleged breach of our standards and have launched an immediate investigation.

“We’ve provided advice for customers, launched new packaging for chicken and funded trials and projects on reducing campylobacter.”

Asda

Asda said that it is supplied by Faccenda and receive some poultry from the Llangefni 2 Sisters factory. The supermarket said it is not supplied by 2 Sisters’ Scunthorpe plant. Asda referred us to the poultry companies.

Tesco

Sainsbury’s

“We are investigating these allegations with 2 Sisters.”

Nando’s

The restaurant chain said it demanded a very high standard of chicken welfare and hygiene from its poultry suppliers and was confident that its suppliers shared the same values.

“All of our chicken is of Red Tractor-assured standard We’re confident that they are reared responsibly and with all due care, in a way that our loyal customers would expect from us,” said Nando’s.

Aldi

“We take any claims of this nature very seriously. Aldi works with our suppliers to ensure the high standards we expect are adhered to. Supplier performance is monitored in a number of different ways including announced and unannounced audits. We have raised these allegations with our supplier to ensure that our rigorous testing and quality control procedures are upheld.”

KFC

“Food safety is of the upmost importance to KFC and we buy fresh chicken from four well established and trusted UK suppliers, including 2 Sisters in Scunthorpe, although we are not supplied by its Llangefni site. All of our suppliers are independently audited and, given the serious nature of the allegations we are pursuing the matter directly with 2 Sisters, who are undertaking a full investigation.”
