Abortion clinic closures in Texas due to HB2
Note for reading this map: The nearest clinic in some cases may be found across state lines, but considering that the appeals court accepted the ruling from another case in Mississippi that declared a state cannot abdicate its responsibility for abortion services to another state, we consider only Texas clinics on this map.

I-35 and I-45 corridors
As of 2 October 2014, only seven abortion clinics – those that meet ambulatory surgical center building standards – were open in Texas. Planned Parenthood South Texas rented space at an eighth clinic in San Antonio, the location of which is undisclosed. All of the clinics were clustered in major cities along the state's I-35 and I-45 corridors. The Supreme Court's decision will allow more than a dozen other clinics to reopen
El Paso and west Texas
One of El Paso's two abortion providers shut down earlier this year due to HB2's admitting privileges requirement. After the fifth circuit court ruling earlier this month allowed a new building code requirement to go into effect, the city's only remaining clinic also closed down. Whether it will reopen thanks to the Supreme Court's order remains to be seen. The next closest in-state clinic is 550 miles away, in San Antonio – a 7.5h drive
Rio Grande Valley
All three clinics in south Texas – or the Rio Grande Valley as the region is known – cut abortion services due to HB2's admitting privileges provision. The cuts left women in the area without nearby access to abortion care; the closest clinic, also in San Antonio, is up to a 250-mile or 3.75 hour drive from Harlingen, Texas. Tuesday's order from the Supreme Court allows Whole Woman's Health in McAllen, Texas to resume service
